The objects for which the Institute is established are to:
Provide and promote an independent national forum for the software and service companies and professionals in Nigeria to interact, exchange information, share knowledge and address issues of common interest in information technology generally and the software industry in particular.
Ensure that the software technology profession in Nigeria takes a dynamic stance in studies and development projects aimed at providing solutions for national development and progress within the framework of global competitiveness.
Advocate practices that promote and guarantee the integrity of software products and services, and ensure that the accuracy and quality of such products and services are maintained throughout their cycles of transformation.
Create and sustain a professionally competent organization capable of attracting government, national and international attention and support.
Promote and foster active national awareness on the vital role, application, use and diffusion of software technology in national development efforts.
Encourage the development of structured and standardized databases for relevant economic, and social information dissemination and usage by individuals, private and public sectors of the economy.
Promote and ensure self-reliance in software design, development, application and usage, for the creation of national wealth.
Provide an environment for fair competition in the business of software technology services and create an avenue for the settlement of disputes among members of the institute.
Assist the government; its agencies, and corporate institutions monitor software projects and services carried out in Nigeria.
Sponsor, promote and support national policies fro software technology development and actively contribute to the National Development Plan.
Ensure that Federal, State and other legislative measures do not adversely affect the interest of members of the institute.
Monitor and inform members of changes in government policies and regulations that affect software products and services.
Ensure that the contribution of software technology products and services are recognized in the development policies of Nigeria.
Encourage and advise government on how to provide an enabling environment and infrastructures for software development in Nigeria.
Contribute, make recommendations to and advise the Federal Armed Forces on issues of software products and services, applications, usage and diffusion in the Defense industry, for the purposes of national security.
Develop a coordinated approach to the Research and Development needs of the software technology industry.
Encourage proper documentation of local software technology products and services and develop simple procedures, manuals, and hand-outs that will be of great benefit to end-users.
Encourage and support studies aimed at promoting the use of Nigerian languages in the development of software (computer language)
Seek and obtain the support and collaboration of the United Nations and its appropriate agencies for educational software research and development projects for the benefits of Nigeria students.
Make inventory, asses, classify, benchmark and publish reports on all software technology products and services in u se in Nigeria.
Forecast and assess changes affecting the provision of software services to meet foreseeable national and global challenges.
Create, develop and continually update a national software technology library and databank of programming and coding techniques for the benefit of members
Organize and host national and global conferences, seminars, talk shows, exhibitions, and workshops for the development o f software technology in Nigeria.
Encourage the development of new techniques in the training and education programme of the software professions in Nigeria.
Promote, ensure and monitor ethical values in the software technology industry and develop principles (such as duties, responsibilities, rules, regulations, code of conduct) for all professionals in the software industry.
Initiate and encourage the award of Honours of the institute as a mark of achievement and recognition of excellence in the software industry.
Ensure that the design, development and application of software services effectively meet the needs, aspirations, and satisfaction of users of information technology.
Promote and foster professional standards in conformity with international practices.
Contribute to issues of jurisprudence in software contractual practices and licensing and other forms of acquisition of software products and services in Nigeria, and proffer to the Judiciary professional recommendations and technical proofs on litigations where necessary.
Develop rules and regulations that will discourage software piracy and ensure that software products and services are used in accordance with intellectual property rights and protection and all other copyright laws enforced by international organizations.
Arbitrate between aggrieved parties in issues of software contracts.
Encourage and advise local and foreign investors and financial institutions on the need and benefits o f actively investing in the software industry in Nigeria.
Develop a database of local software products/services and provide information and useful contacts for software exports from Nigeria.
Promote and foster the exportation of made-in-Nigeria software products and services for the International Market.
Print, publish and circulate any document, newspaper, newsletter, periodicals, leaflets, journal, magazines in book or digital electronic or multimedia form that the institute approves as desirable for the development and promotion of the interests of the members.
Relate, interact and affiliate with national and international organizations with similar focus, interests and objectives.
